By Lucinda Briggs

The Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) serves students living in Mobile AL homes in Southwest Alabama. Extending from Citronelle in the north to Dauphin Island in the south, Mobile County real estate is bordered by the Mobile Bay on the East, the Gulf of Mexico on the South, and Mississippi on the West.  MCPSS currently serves all homes in Mobile County, including the City of Mobile.  Saraland, Satsuma, and Chickasaw, which recently began operating their own schools, are the exceptions.

Mobile County Public School System strives to graduate citizens who are literate, responsible, and committed to learning over a lifetime.  Serving a population of 400,000 residents in Mobile County, the school system enrolls approximately 65,000 students in five districts. See for more information.

The school system in Mobile County provides all students with access to a well-rounded, rigorous curriculum.  MCPSS provides a variety of pathways to academic and career success.  To maximize student learning the district partners with the community to enhance the educational environment and provide multiple pathways to graduation.

In 2012, the Mobile County Public School System earned AdvancED District Accreditation through a system that improves student performance through improving the district, individual schools, and each classroom to meet the needs of students. In addition, the Mobile Area Education Foundation named Mobile one of America's Promise Alliances 100 Best Communities for Young People.  The award recognizes outstanding and innovative work to address the high school dropout rate.

The district excels in providing communication for parents, staff, and stakeholders.  For example the Parenting Program enhances and supports family education through community involvement.  All are kept abreast through programs such as Inside Education news, MCPSS Week video messages, Homeroom informational show, MCPOSS Athletics, On the Move classroom news program, Notify Me emails and texts, School Messenger phone system and numerous other avenues.
