Experience Fairhope at Weekend Arts & Crafts Festival

From Interstate 10, turn south on Highway 98 and visit Fairhope Alabama this weekend to experience the 61st Annual Arts & Crafts Festival.  Set on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, Fairhope real estate may just pull on your heartstrings.  The Festival will be open March 15, 16, and 17, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Fairhope AL Arts & Craft The free Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival draws 350,000 people from homes in Baldwin County, Mobile County, and across the nation.  Over 230 artists and exhibitors are converging here in Fairhope.  The free event is a great place to stroll through the charming downtown area.  In fact, after 60 years, the Festival has become an award-winning celebration of “artistic minds and craftsmanship.”  So says Marc D. Anderson in his recent blog at al.com.

The tremendously popular Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival is sponsored by the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce.  The celebration has received a number of honors.  Sunshine Artist Magazine voted the Fairhope Annual Arts & Crafts Festival in the top 26 of 100 as one of the Best Predominantly Classic & Contemporary Craft Shows in the United States.  The Southeast Tourism Society put the show in its top 20 events and the Alabama Bureau of Tourism as one of the top 20 in the state.

The Festival inaugurates the spring season by offering high quality arts and crafts from exhibitors and showcasing the work of top artists from around the country.  From Section Street and Fairhope Avenue, exhibits march along Church Street and De La Mare Avenue.  Farther down Section Street on the north side of downtown Fairhope, the work of artists from near and far will be showcased at the Outdoor Art Show held at the Eastern Shore Art Center.

During the three days, children are invited to participate in lots of fun and games at the “Young at Art” area.  Activities range from face painting to craft projects to a jumping area.  In addition, a schedule of children and adult performers enliven the activities every hour during the day.  There will be pet adoptions, a Smoke House set up by the Fairhope Fire Department to teach fire safety to children, plus 10K and 2-mile races on Saturday.

The show continues in the culinary area where the Food Court celebrates by featuring distinctive cuisine and one-of-a-kind taste experiences.

A well-oiled organization of volunteers makes it a breeze to join us.  Inexpensive shuttle service is available from several free parking areas, including Plantation Pointe Shopping Center, Eastern Shore Village Center, and Ecor Rouge Place Shopping Center.  There is also a bicycle valet service planned.
